2023 · Based on 1 season, 7 episodes through April 13, 2023 ·
Mike Valentine is a disgraced former police officer who owes money because of his gambling. A mob boss sends him from Philadelphia to Florida to find the boss’s missing girlfriend, Delly West. Mike wants to leave quickly, but a search for hidden Spanish gold pulls him into murder, police trouble, and his broken family. The show mixes dark crime, wild jokes, romance, and strange Florida disasters.
Delly is not only the person Mike must find because she stages her death, follows the treasure clues, and helps decide how the story ends. The season presents her as the sharper partner while Mike keeps making selfish choices and mistakes. Mike’s ex-wife Iris works as a detective and later helps move against the mob, while other women also make key choices in the crime plot. These moments led by women are clear in the story, but they remain part of a crime and treasure hunt instead of a broad political message.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Florida Man.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The show uses a mixed cast in modern Florida and Philadelphia, including Latino, Black, Asian, and white characters. The series does not make that casting a diversity message or use identity changes to drive the plot.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Characters talk about gambling, crime, family, police work, and money. The season has no clear speeches about current elections, activism, DEI, or identity politics.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Delly drives the treasure search and makes the final move against Moss. The story treats her as the person who understands the plan better than Mike. Mike is shown as a selfish man who keeps believing he is the center of the story. This creates a clear female-agency message, but it stays inside the crime and romance plot.
28%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The show has crooked police, a criminal family, and a church figure involved in a crime as parts of its plot. It does not turn them into a modern attack on Western culture, Christianity, traditional family life, or conservative institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The show is an original crime story built around the Florida Man meme. It does not rewrite a known character, source story, or real historical person.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A small Reddit discussion accused the show of adding a woman of color and called its writing politically and culturally biased. The comment gave no clear scene or example, so it does not prove that the show contains that agenda. One tiny X account called the show “odd woke stuff.” Another tiny post read a Netflix promo as a liberal jab. The supplied X search found no large right-leaning account, boycott, review-bomb push, or major news controversy.
15%
Creator track record context
Donald Todd has a mainstream television writing background and no documented activist record. Haifaa al-Mansour’s work often supports women’s agency, and Julian Farino has directed queer-themed projects, but neither has a strong activist profile here. Jason Bateman has criticized conservative political supporters, while the other listed creators have little public political history. The combined context is mild and does not strongly predict woke content in this show.
