2018 · Based on 1 season, 4 episodes through March 27, 2018 ·
James Acaster is the main performer in this four-part British stand-up series. He plays a comic who may also be an undercover police officer, a former honey scammer, a jury member, and a man hiding in witness protection. The four specials move between a small London stage, jury duty, Kenya, Loughborough, and strange stories about daily life. Their shared story slowly joins the jokes, so the tone stays playful, odd, and carefully planned.
The clearest political material appears in Reset, where Acaster jokes about Brexit with a teabag comparison and questions Britain's old empire and museums holding stolen objects. Represent also follows his move from a Christian childhood to agnosticism, but it treats doubt as a personal problem rather than a campaign message. The four parts return to lost love, changing names, regret, and the need to decide what kind of person he wants to be. The comedy keeps these ideas inside stories about honey, jury duty, bread, massage, strange phone calls, and other small parts of daily life.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for James Acaster: Repertoire.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The on-screen performance centers on James Acaster, with only a few voices in one podcast bit. The show does not use identity-based casting or a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Reset presents a clear Brexit joke in which leaving makes the whole cup weaker. Reset also questions British pride by joking about ancestors taking objects and putting them in museums. These points take up only short parts of one special, while most lines deal with odd personal stories.
24%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The show uses fake names and changing jobs to tell a personal story about breakups, doubt, and performance. It does not turn that story into race, gender, sexuality, or diversity messaging.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Represent questions Christian belief when Acaster explains why he became agnostic. Reset mocks Britain's past empire by describing stolen objects in museums and making national pride look silly. These ideas appear in two specials, but they are short comic sections inside a show mainly about personal stories.
26%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The series is original stand-up material and does not change an established character, franchise, or real historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Brexit supporters reportedly reacted angrily to the tea joke and gave Acaster negative feedback. The complaint targeted his anti-Brexit view rather than race, gender, sexuality, or DEI. The reported backlash was small and tied to one routine, so it supports only a low score.
12%
Creator track record context
The supplied context gives James Acaster a 55/100 score and links him to progressive comments about trans people, nationalism, and racial privilege. The same context gives the producers scores from 21 to 58/100, with several tied to black identity, disability, LGBTQ talent, or neurodiversity. The director has a 0/100 score and the production group has no single shared activist record. This makes the background mixed and moderate, while Repertoire itself is not a diversity project.
