2021 · Based on 1 season, 8 episodes through July 16, 2021 ·
Lisey Landon is a widow in rural Maine who still lives with the loss of her famous husband, writer Scott Landon. Two years after his death, she follows a strange scavenger hunt through his papers while a violent fan hunts her for the same material. Memories of their marriage lead her into Boo’ya Moon, a bright but deadly world tied to Scott’s childhood and family pain. The season mixes grief, romance, mystery, gore, and supernatural horror.
Women drive the story because Lisey and her sisters face danger, protect one another, and rescue Amanda when her mind slips into Boo’ya Moon. The show also shows men acting as if they own Scott’s work and Lisey’s life. These ideas give the season a mild message about women's strength, but they remain part of a personal horror story. The main themes are love, family loyalty, old trauma, grief, and learning to let go.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Lisey's Story.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The show uses a mostly white cast for a present-day rural Maine story, with no clear diversity-first casting message or repeated identity pattern in major roles.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue centers on grief, marriage, family, mental illness, writing, and supernatural danger. It does not use current political or activist speeches.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The show gives a recurring women-centered message by making Lisey and her sisters the people who protect one another and solve the crisis. The plot also shows male fame and male entitlement harming Lisey. These ideas shape the family and stalker plots across the season. They remain part of a personal grief and horror story rather than a modern identity-politics campaign.
24%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The show presents Professor Dashmiel as a man who treats Lisey's late husband's work as his right to claim. The story also shows a violent male fan and a weak police response. These scenes question male entitlement and the status given to famous men. The show does not make a wider attack on Western institutions, religion, capitalism, or family life.
18%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The series adapts King's 2006 novel and King wrote every episode. No identity-driven change to an established character, real person, or major canon is central to the show.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X research found no anti-woke reaction or named complaints. News and fan discussion focused on slow pacing, confusing plot, gore, and adaptation quality.
