2022 · Based on 1 season, 6 episodes through February 3, 2022 ·
Murderville follows senior detective Terry Seattle, a loud and clumsy cop in a strange big-city police unit. Each episode gives him a famous new trainee who has no script and must help solve a murder case. Terry guides the guest through a crime scene, three suspects, and a final choice about the killer. The cases use crude jokes, silly costumes, and surprise tasks, while Terry also struggles with his divorce and an old partner's unsolved death.
Police chief Rhonda Jenkins-Seattle is a capable black woman who is also Terry's former wife and boss. Medical examiner Amber Kang is an Asian woman who provides the facts that move each case forward. The final case reveals that a rich builder pushed working-class people from their homes and paid a police leader to ignore it. These details are easy to see, but the main story stays focused on improv games, murder clues, Terry's foolish pride, and his hope of winning Rhonda back.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Murderville.
Woke representation / casting
A black woman serves as the police chief, Terry's boss, and his former wife. An Asian woman serves as the skilled medical examiner who explains the key evidence. A black male detective is calmer and more capable than Terry and becomes Rhonda's new boyfriend. The four-person regular team and the mixed group of celebrity trainees create a clear pattern of diversity in important roles.
38%
Woke political dialogue
The final episode says a rich builder drove working-class families from their homes and bribed a police leader to ignore it. One other scene jokes about doing a Pakistani accent without being racist. These ideas appear in short comedy scenes. They do not guide most murder cases or turn into a wider political message.
18%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Race, sex, and sexuality do not drive any murder case or long character arc. Terry and Rhonda's interracial marriage is treated as an ordinary broken marriage.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Terry's loud macho pride and need for control are repeated targets of the joke. Rhonda runs the department, rejects his self-pity, and dates the calmer Daz. The first case also mocks a group of God-fearing mothers who call magic a tool of the devil. The finale attacks a rich builder and a bribed police leader, but most episodes stay with broad crime-show jokes.
32%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The series remakes the British show Murder in Successville, but it does not make an identity-driven change to an established character.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Reviews and public discussions criticized uneven improv, weak guest performances, and changes from the British show. They did not produce a notable anti-woke or anti-left complaint about the series.

Creator track record context
Creator Krister Johnson and most producers have little public activist history. Writer Anna Drezen has a strong record of feminist comedy about sexism and rape culture. Writers Hannah Levy and Adriana Robles have worked on women-led or race-focused comedy programs. The team is mixed, so this context is mild rather than a clear shared direction.
