Sadie is a woman who survived a violent marriage and now lives alone in cold upstate New York. She travels from place to place and helps women and children escape abusive homes. She beats or frightens the abusers, takes money or property for the victims, and hides the pain left by her own past. She is also hunting her missing husband, who killed their son and remains the last threat she must face. The film is a quiet, grim thriller that uses sudden bursts of harsh violence.
The film puts female survival and female strength at the center of its story. Sadie is the main fighter, protector, and judge, while the men she faces are mostly violent husbands, fathers, or other threats. Women meet in a support group, share what happened to them, and help Sadie turn fear into action. The story treats domestic abuse as a repeated abuse of power and presents Sadie’s fight as a way for women to take back control. Its message is focused on gender and abuse, but it does not build a wider debate about race, sexuality, religion, or economics.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for A Vigilante.
Woke representation / casting
Sadie is a white woman who is the film’s lead fighter and protector. The main supporting survivors are mostly women and children, while most important male roles are abusers or threats. The film’s public framing calls this female-centered setup empowerment. The modern upstate New York setting and mixed supporting cast do not show a strong race or sexuality-based pattern.
28%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue discusses abuse, fear, grief, and survival. The movie does not contain clear speeches or repeated lines about DEI, identity politics, or modern political activism.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Sadie turns her abuse into a mission to free women and children. The support group links female survival with speaking openly and standing together. Sadie repeatedly overpowers abusive men and finally kills her husband to regain control of her life. The story presents female strength and resistance to male abuse as its main message.
65%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The movie shows abusive men using money, marriage, and family power to trap victims. Sadie works outside the police and courts because the victims have little protection in the story. The support group presents shared help as necessary, while male control and silence around abuse are treated as social problems. The film does not attack religion, capitalism, or Western culture as a whole.
44%

Sarah Daggar-Nickson has a clear women-focused and social-justice pattern in her work. Olivia Wilde has a public record of feminist and empowerment-focused statements.
