A Working Man follows Levon Cade, a former Royal Marine commando who now works as a construction foreman in Chicago. Levon lives quietly and saves money while he fights for more time with his young daughter after his wife’s death. When his boss Joe Garcia’s college-age daughter Jenny is taken by human traffickers, Levon returns to the violent skills he left behind. He tracks Jenny through Russian mobsters, drug dealers, corrupt police, and a larger criminal network.
The story centers on duty, family loyalty, fatherhood, military honor, and revenge. Levon treats Jenny as family and keeps his promise to bring her home, so the rescue tests his word and his control over violence. Jenny is more than a helpless victim because she knows some self-defense and takes part in her own escape. The movie presents a hard, old-style action hero who believes that some criminals must be stopped with force.
