Xana is a mother who takes her son Benji to visit his father’s family in a dark forest. A car crash leaves them near a house where tense relatives and hired hunters soon gather. A huge mutated deer called Bambi attacks the group after humans kill his mother and mate and take his young fawn. The film uses grim night scenes, bloody animal attacks, family arguments, and strange moments involving Benji’s grandmother.
The main story follows Xana as she tries to keep Benji alive while Bambi hunts them. The film also shows that Wilbexr, a drug company, dumped toxic waste into the forest and helped create the deadly animals. Simon, Benji’s father, helps hide the company’s crime and puts his own family in danger. The story treats grief, revenge, broken family ties, harm to nature, and the cycle of violence as its main themes.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Bambi: The Reckoning.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film presents a mother, son, relatives, hunters, and a deer without making their identities a message. No diversity-first or empowerment casting statement about this title was found.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The reported dialogue centers on family conflict, hunters, company crimes, and survival. It does not center on modern politics, DEI, or identity claims.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The film centers on grief, revenge, family strain, and harm to nature. It does not build its story around race, gender, sexuality, or other identity politics.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film blames Wilbexr Pharmaceuticals for dumping toxic waste into the forest. The waste kills Bambi’s mate and changes animals into monsters. Simon hires hunters to hide the company’s crime, so anti-corporate and nature-protection ideas affect the main plot. The film does not widen this into a broad attack on Western culture or current political groups.
20%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film turns Bambi into a mutated killer and changes the plot into a monster movie. That is a horror remake choice, not an identity or DEI change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One Swedish user review called the film’s casting “woke” but gave no example. The supplied X research found no anti-woke posts, boycotts, defenses, or review-bombing tied to the film. Wider reviews and audience posts focused on gore, the deer, pacing, and family drama, so the complaint appears isolated.

Creator track record context
Cached records give Dan Allen, Rhys Frake-Waterfield, Nicole Holland, and Stuart Alson scores of 0. Cached records give Rhys Warrington 10, Felix Salten 12, and Scott Chambers 10. Allen’s interviews frame the film around horror, grief, loss of innocence, and nature, not identity politics. The overall creator context is weak.
