Jennifer and Eric lead their friends into a remote cave in northern Australia. A tropical storm floods the tunnels and cuts off the path back to the surface. The group must find air and a way out while a large saltwater crocodile moves through the dark water. The movie has a tense survival-horror tone, with bloody attacks, fear, lies, and hard choices.
Jennifer and Yolanda become the center of the final escape after the men in the group are killed. Yolanda reveals that she is pregnant with Eric’s baby, not Viktor’s, and the affair adds distrust inside the cave. Jennifer keeps pushing the group to search for a way out, and she later uses a gun to kill the crocodile while saving Yolanda. The movie gives the women the last victory, while its main subjects remain survival under pressure, betrayal, and teamwork.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Black Water: Abyss.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film shows a small group of modern Australian friends, and it does not frame the cast as a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue deals with cave danger, romance, pregnancy, cancer recovery, and an affair. The characters do not deliver activist or identity-based political speeches.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Jennifer drives the group to keep searching for an exit when waiting in the cave becomes too dangerous. Yolanda and Jennifer are the only main survivors after Cash, Viktor, and Eric die. Jennifer uses a gun to kill the crocodile while trying to save Yolanda. This gives the ending a clear female-survival and female-rescue angle, but the film does not build that idea through repeated political or identity talk.
25%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows an affair and personal dishonesty, but it does not attack men, family life, religion, capitalism, or Western institutions. Its main conflict comes from a storm, a cave, and a crocodile.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is a standalone sequel with a new group of characters. It does not recast or rewrite a known character or historical figure around identity politics.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X pass found no anti-woke reaction or specific complaint. The reviewed news, reviews, and audience posts discuss horror quality, pacing, violence, and the ending instead.
0%
Creator track record context
John Ridley has a public record of stories about race, inequality, and representation, and he created a social justice summit. Sarah Smith and Andrew Traucki have no clear activist record in the supplied context. The producers mostly have commercial genre backgrounds, with a few credits about queer or cross-cultural stories. The film itself does not turn that background into an activist message, so this is a limited context signal.
