Freddy is a young girl trapped inside a cheerful children's television show with other children and talking objects. Buddy, a singing orange unicorn, expects everyone to play along and love him. His friendly act turns deadly when the children question him and try to escape his strange world. Outside the show, Freddy's mother Grace senses that someone is missing from her family, even though her husband cannot remember their daughter. Freddy takes the lead in helping the children escape, while Grace becomes their fighter and protector after Buddy pulls her into the show. These female rescue roles carry through the main story, but the characters remain frightened and depend on help from others. An older man named George and a male puppet named Willie share a passionate kiss and say they love each other during a brief scene. The film mainly follows a child's struggle to survive and a mother's effort to save her daughter, with cruel jokes and bloody attacks breaking through the cheerful songs.
