Nels Coxman is a quiet snowplow driver in a cold mountain ski town. His life falls apart when his son is murdered by a drug gang. Nels hunts the gang members one by one and aims for their boss, a drug lord called Viking. The movie mixes hard revenge with dark jokes, rival gangs, and messy fallout from each kill.
The main identity piece viewers can see is a gay romance between two of Viking’s men, Mustang and Dexter. They share loving looks, talk about a vacation, and kiss on screen in a van. After Viking kills Dexter to blame someone else and calm a gang war, Mustang turns on Viking out of grief. That betrayal helps push the gangs into the final shootout. The core story is still a father’s revenge plan, not a lesson about politics or social causes.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Cold Pursuit.
Woke representation / casting
Two of Viking’s henchmen, Mustang and Dexter, are a gay couple. They share loving looks, talk about a vacation, and kiss on screen. This is a side-cast romance among crooks, not a diverse redesign of the main hero roles. The lead cast fits a normal Colorado crime story.

Identity-driven story themes
The gay lovers plot is not the main story, but it changes later events. When Viking kills Dexter to calm a gang war, Mustang betrays him because Dexter was his partner. That tip helps drive the final gang clash. The queer bond is a clear reason for the double-cross.

Creator track record context
Cached profiles for the listed directors are mostly near zero. Emily Silver has a mild prior feminist ensemble credit. Producer Michael Shamberg has some older social-issue films. None of this maps to a strong activist push in this revenge movie.
