Dirty Angels follows Jake, a United States Army Ranger who still carries anger and guilt after her team was lost during the 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan. When ISIS kidnaps schoolgirls in Pakistan, Jake leads a small group of female soldiers back into the war zone. The soldiers pose as medical workers so they can reach the girls while ISIS and the Taliban fight for power. The movie uses a grim and violent action style with gun battles, torture, betrayals, and revenge.
The movie makes the all-female commando team its clearest identity choice. Jake leads the mission, while women serve as the bomb expert, medic, shooter, mechanic, and tech expert. The story places these women against male extremist groups that control, abuse, and kill women, so female strength and gender roles stay visible through the rescue. A short subplot also shows a hostage who does not fit usual gender roles being mocked and killed, but the movie remains a direct rescue thriller instead of a long political debate.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Dirty Angels.
Woke representation / casting
The film puts an all-female commando team at the center of a 2021 military rescue. The team includes a black female tech expert, a Middle Eastern female mechanic, and a masculine-presenting medic played by Ruby Rose. The marketing and interviews repeatedly sell the group as an all-women strike force and a team of badass women. The setting makes some women soldiers believable, but the repeated pattern in every top combat role goes beyond ordinary background diversity.
44%
Woke political dialogue
The mission plan says a relief group must be 60% women to look believable. Jake answers that many Army Rangers are women when a man mocks the idea. The characters also speak about the Taliban’s treatment of women and the danger faced by people who do not fit usual gender roles. These lines are brief and support the rescue plot instead of becoming a long political speech.
12%
Identity-driven story themes
The story makes female combat leadership the center of its rescue mission. Women lead, plan, fight, use technology, handle explosives, and protect kidnapped girls. The movie repeatedly contrasts these capable women with male groups that control, abuse, or kill women. The film also gives a person who does not fit usual gender roles a brief but clear role in the danger.
48%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows military mistakes and extremist abuse as part of the war plot. It does not turn those events into a sustained modern activist attack on Western institutions or cultural norms.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original war story with no established characters or source canon to change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
The supplied X research found no anti-woke reaction, named complaints, or boycott campaign. A few foreign user reviews and forum posts called the all-female unit unrealistic or “woke” and complained about DEI casting. Those comments were scattered and did not become major news or a sustained campaign. The factor stays low because the reaction evidence is small.
12%
Creator track record context
The key creators mostly have commercial action and thriller careers. Martin Campbell’s supplied score is 12/100 because of mild environmental concern, not identity politics activism. The other writers and producers have supplied scores from 0 to 8 and no clear activist record. The title interviews stress action craft, the Afghanistan setting, and female-led casting rather than a wider political campaign.
