Caroline Christmas wants to host a perfect Christmas for her family at the large Yorkshire home she shares with her husband and children. Her three sisters arrive with very different habits and tempers, and their father James suddenly returns after leaving the family for many years. The family must face old anger, a hidden affair, and the truth about why James walked away. The film uses loud jokes, awkward sex humor, drinking, and family chaos instead of a serious holiday mood.
Most of the story follows family secrets, broken marriages, jealousy, and the slow move toward forgiveness. Paulina is a lesbian, and her family jokes that she tells them each Christmas. The film treats that detail as a small piece of family banter rather than the main conflict. The story ends by stressing family ties, forgiveness, and the value of being together.
