Harold lives inside a book and uses a magic purple crayon to draw anything he wants into real life. He grows up and draws a door to our world so he and his friends Moose and Porcupine can find their creator, the "old man" narrator. They meet a boy named Mel and his mom Terry, who are sad after losing their dad and husband, and they all face a bad guy who steals the crayon for trouble.
The movie has almost no noticeable woke content. It tells a simple family story about using imagination to handle hard feelings like grief and to make good choices instead of bad ones. There are no speeches about politics, identity, or social causes. The cast has some actors from different backgrounds in sidekick and supporting parts that fit a normal city scene, and one pride flag shows up for a second in the background of one shot. Viewers would see a fun fantasy adventure about drawing and friendship, not any push for activist ideas.
