John Wayne Cleaver is a teenage sociopath who works at his mother's funeral home in a small Midwestern town. He lives by strict rules so he will not act on his urge to kill. When mutilation murders hit the snowy town, he becomes obsessed with finding the killer. He learns that his neighbor Bill Crowley is a parasite-like monster that steals organs to stay alive. John must stop the monster without becoming a killer himself.
The story focuses on sociopathy versus chosen morality and coming-of-age isolation. Empathy is shown as a practice rather than a natural feeling. The film plays like a serial-killer mystery with a creature-feature twist. There is no modern identity politics, diversity casting push, or activist framing in what the audience sees. Authority figures are ordinary small-town people, and the threat is a supernatural parasite rather than Western institutions.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for I Am Not a Serial Killer.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Prominent roles fit a small Midwestern town story with no audience-visible quota casting, identity-hero pattern, or marketing that sells the cast as a diversity statement.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Dialogue centers on serial-killer lore, therapy rules, family strain, and William Blake poems, not activist, DEI, race, gender, or progressive talking points.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. Story is personal horror about a boy who cannot feel empathy trying not to murder and a monster that kills to survive, with no identity-as-oppression arc or representation-first framing.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. No activist attack on patriarchy, toxic masculinity, capitalism, whiteness, or Christianity. The threat is a supernatural parasite, not Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Adaptation changes are ordinary film craft such as trimmed voice-over and a funeral confrontation, not race, gender swaps, or ideological canon rewrites.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No meaningful anti-woke discourse treats the film as DEI or propaganda. Complaints focus on tone, humor, or title expectations, not woke content.
0%
Creator track record context
The people behind this film are mostly genre and indie professionals, not social-justice filmmakers. Writer scores and producer scores sit in the low range on the source cache. A few credits score a bit higher from unrelated work. Nothing here shows a clear pattern of identity-first filmmaking tied to this title.
