Inconceivable follows Katie, a young mother who moves to a new town after escaping an abusive past. She becomes close to Angela, a doctor who wants another child after a hard pregnancy and miscarriage. Angela and her husband Brian invite Katie into their home as a nanny and later ask her to carry their baby. Katie hides a violent plan tied to her past as an egg donor, and the story turns into a dark home thriller about trust, motherhood, and obsession.
The film gives its main attention to women, and Brian stays in a smaller support role while Angela, Katie, and Donna drive most of the action. Katie also has sex with Linda, another woman, in a brief scene that adds adult sexuality but does not become a lasting relationship. The story spends most of its time on surrogacy, infertility, abuse, and the wish to be a mother. The danger comes from Katie’s violent obsession, while Angela tries to protect her children and prove that she is being framed.

Woke representation / casting
The film places Angela, Katie, and Donna in the most important adult roles. Brian is a supporting husband, and the women drive the family conflict. Baker called the project a “women’s movie,” and Whelan called the script “female-driven.” The cast does not show a broad race or identity pattern, so the gender focus is a mild signal.
