Zim is a small Irken soldier who wants to conquer Earth and win back the approval of his leaders. He hides among humans with his foolish robot GIR, while Dib watches for a chance to expose him. Zim learns that the Tallest never planned to come to Earth, so he steals Professor Membrane’s Peace Day project and sets a deadly space hole in motion. Dib, Gaz, and their father must escape space prison and stop the Florpus before it tears Earth apart. The movie uses loud jokes, gross images, fast action, and a strange science-fiction tone.
The movie gives Dib a stronger family story than the original show usually had. Dib wants his father to be proud of him, and Gaz helps him when his obsession leaves him stuck in a chair. Professor Membrane finally tells Dib that he already is proud, which gives the chaos a small heart. The movie also mocks mass buying, silly news shows, and leaders who ignore danger. The story treats pride, family, blind crowds, and failed authority as parts of its dark joke.
