Keeper follows Liz, a painter, who visits a remote cabin with her boyfriend Malcolm for their one-year anniversary. Malcolm leaves her alone, and strange visions, ghosts, and creatures begin to expose the cabin’s secret. Liz learns that Malcolm and his cousin have used women as sacrifices for two centuries so they can keep their youth. The film has a cold, dreamlike horror mood and ends with Liz turning the trap back on Malcolm.
The film makes male control the main human evil. Malcolm drugs Liz, hides the truth, and treats her as a replaceable body in a plan built for his own survival. The story presents this as a pattern of patriarchal power, toxic masculinity, and women being treated as expendable. Liz breaks the expected victim role, but the strange ending leaves her power and future unclear.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Keeper.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film uses a female lead and a male partner for its relationship horror. It does not make race, sexuality, disability, or diversity a story point.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters do not discuss politics, DEI, or current social issues. The movie shows its gender conflict through events and horror rather than political speeches.

Identity-driven story themes
The story shows Malcolm and Darren using women as sacrifices so they can keep their long lives. The film treats male control, lies, and the use of women as expendable as the main human evil. Liz sees the pattern and turns it against Malcolm at the end. The horror uses this supernatural story to frame patriarchy and toxic masculinity as wider problems.
68%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film attacks a family system that treats women as property and bodies for male survival. Malcolm hides the truth, drugs Liz, and expects her to accept a role chosen for her. The ending lets Liz break that role and punish him. The story turns male entitlement, patriarchal family power, and toxic masculinity into the main human source of danger.
62%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Keeper is an original story, not an adaptation or a retelling of known characters or history.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A small horror account listed Keeper with Barbarian, Men, and Companion as subtle woke or misandry horror. That post had very little visible reach and came from a small or anonymous account. A critic called the film feminist as all hell, but that was not an anti-woke complaint. No boycott, review bombing, coordinated campaign, or major right-leaning coverage was found.
12%
Creator track record context
The director and writer have little known activist history. Producer Tatiana Maslany has a strong public record of LGBTQ and feminist advocacy. Producer Dave Caplan has a diversity mentorship record, and Tom Quinn has backed films with stated social goals. Most other listed producers and casting staff have little known activist history, so this context is mixed rather than dominant.
