In the small Texas town of LaRoy, a broke and sad man named Ray works at a hardware store with his brother. He finds out his wife is cheating and feels very down. He goes to the motel thinking dark thoughts when a stranger mistakes him for a hitman and hands him money and a target. Ray and his odd private eye friend Skip then try to survive while the real hitman hunts them down.
This dark comedy crime movie follows regular flawed people in a small town who get mixed up in murder and money schemes after a case of mistaken identity. It uses quirky characters, awkward funny moments, and bloody surprises in a style like old Coen Brothers films. The main focus is personal betrayal by family and the chaos of bad luck in rural life. Viewers see a lot of small town greed and incompetence played for dark laughs.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for LaRoy, Texas.
Woke representation / casting
The main cast is almost all white and fits a small Texas town setting. Lead roles go to white men. Female characters include a wife who cheats and is called an ex beauty queen type, plus one in a strip club scene. There is no clear push for diverse or identity based casting in big parts.
0%
Woke political dialogue
The talk is about cheating, money, killing, and small town trouble. It uses rough language but stays on personal stories and crime. No speeches about politics or causes.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The plot is about one man's bad day after learning about betrayal and then getting pulled into crime by accident. It centers on personal failures and twists, not race, gender, or group identity.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Some characters are greedy or dishonest, like a lawyer doing blackmail and a car dealer with problems. This comes across as classic noir fun about flawed people rather than any modern activist attack on big systems or traditions.
