JJ is a former field CIA agent who now works at a desk and helps raise his teenage stepdaughter, Sophie. He joins her school choir trip through Italy, where he hopes to repair their strained bond. The trip turns into a fight against terrorists who plan to use old nuclear weapons against the Vatican during a major event. The movie mixes family comedy, teen romance, spy action, crude jokes, and serious danger in an uneven way.
The clearest woke-leaning material is a short exchange about sexism, when a CIA co-worker calls JJ sexist and he answers with a crude insult about a woman’s body and a joke about reporting him to HR. Sophie also gets more action than in the first movie, and she helps rescue JJ and defeat male spies, but the story presents this as part of her training and growing up rather than a broad feminist message. Carlos and Todd return as a gay couple, although they have only a small role as comic villains. The film has a mixed cast and a black teen hero, but the story does not make diversity or identity politics a central subject.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for My Spy The Eternal City.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The movie uses a mixed cast in a present-day American family and CIA story, but it does not call attention to diversity or build the plot around identity.
0%
Woke political dialogue
A CIA co-worker calls JJ sexist during a short workplace exchange. JJ answers with a crude insult about a woman’s body and a joke about going to HR. The film has no repeated political debate or activist speech.
10%
Identity-driven story themes
Carlos and Todd return as a gay couple who work for the villain. The couple has a small action-comedy role and remains together. Sophie also helps fight male spies and rescue JJ while learning to act with more freedom. The story keeps these elements as side parts of a family spy comedy.
18%
Western institutional / cultural critique
A CIA co-worker says that JJ sounds sexist. JJ responds with a crude body joke and a line about reporting him to HR. The exchange makes sexist talk look foolish, but it lasts only a moment. The film does not attack the CIA, family life, religion, capitalism, or other Western institutions.
12%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The sequel changes JJ’s job and Sophie’s age, but those are normal story changes, not identity-driven changes to established characters.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The supplied X pass found no anti-woke reaction. No broad web complaint linked the sequel to woke or DEI messaging.
0%
Creator track record context
Most writers and casting directors have no notable activist record. Dave Bautista has spoken against Donald Trump and supports LGBTQ+ rights. Gigi Pritzker supports underrepresented storytellers, while Chris Bender and Jake Weiner have some social-impact interests. The title has a mild creator-context signal.
