Gru is a former supervillain who now works as an agent while raising his family with Lucy. The couple has three adopted daughters, Margo, Edith, and Agnes, and a new baby son named Gru Jr. When Gru's old school rival, Maxime Le Mal, escapes prison with help from his criminal partner Valentina, the family enters witness protection in the wealthy town of Mayflower. The film uses fast chases, silly inventions, rough jokes, and Minion chaos.
Gru struggles to win his baby's affection while trying to keep his family safe. Poppy, a teenage neighbor who wants to become a villain, discovers Gru's secret and forces him to help steal a school mascot. Lucy and the girls adjust to their new home while Gru hides his work and his past from the neighbors. The story treats family loyalty, teamwork, and parenthood as its main ideas while the family and its allies face Maxime together.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A parody post joked about a made-up “Despicable Me has gone woke” claim tied to gender-neutral bathrooms. A few small accounts grouped the film with titles praised for having no woke propaganda. The discussion was thin and mostly jokes or claims that the film was not woke. No boycott, review-bomb push, or organized anti-woke campaign was reported.
8%
Creator track record context
Chris Renaud, Patrick Delage, Ken Daurio, Brett Hoffman, and Chris Meledandri have very low stored woke scores and no known activist record. Mike White gives the only notable context because his wider work explores identity and social behavior, and he is openly gay. His public comments have pushed back on identity politics barriers in storytelling. This film remains a family comedy about parenthood and cartoon action.
