Jackie Cruz is the tough CEO and pilot of AirCruz, a New Jersey airline her father built. She keeps a hard no-dating rule at work so the board cannot take her job. Daniel Blanchflower is a new British company lawyer who has to work closely with her on a big lawsuit. They fall for each other on a work trip and try to hide it, which risks her career, his visa, and the company’s case. The movie is a raunchy, light romantic comedy with office secrets, family pressure, and a public happy ending.
Viewers will clearly see Jackie as a powerful woman boss who flies planes and runs a company while men on the board doubt her. The story leans on her skill and pride as a Latina leader who refuses to step down. A few side characters include same-sex office romance jokes after the credits, and the film flips the usual rom-com setup so the woman is the high-status star. These parts sit next to the main love plot rather than replace it.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Office Romance.
Woke representation / casting
The lead is a Latina woman who is both CEO and pilot, with another strong woman as her top aide. Writers and Lopez talk about putting a Latina woman in charge as a rare, important image. Supporting players include a wheelchair-using actress and a mixed office staff. In a modern New Jersey company this is not wild, but the female power roles and identity framing are easy to notice.
36%
Woke political dialogue
Characters say Jackie faces extra doubt from men on the board as a woman and as the founder’s daughter. That gender-pressure talk shows up around the job fight. It is not constant speech-making about politics, race, or activism.
16%
Identity-driven story themes
Beside the secret romance, the film pushes a woman-in-charge story where Jackie’s skill is proven against male board doubt. Reviews call out girl-boss and empowerment beats. Side material includes a same-sex office romance after the credits and a queer-coded sister character, which adds clear LGBTQ content even if it is not the main plot.
44%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The board of men treats Jackie as less than, and the ending has her father and team defend her as the real brain of the airline. That is a mild modern dig at old boys’ club thinking at work. The film is not mainly about tearing down capitalism, churches, or the whole Western system.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Almost no serious anti-woke campaign shows up in news or big social threads. Most complaints are about crude jokes, quality, or tone. A few stray posts slap “woke” on it, but that reaction is tiny and not widely shared.
8%
Creator track record context
Lopez’s higher score and public talk about Latina power and feminism raise the context a bit. Goldstein and Kelly sit in a mild range. Parker and most producers score low. Overall crew context is light-to-moderate, not activist-driven.
