Operation Finale follows Peter Malkin, an Israeli spy who carries anger over the murder of his sister and her children during the Holocaust. In 1960, he joins a secret team in Argentina that finds Adolf Eichmann, a former Nazi officer hiding under a false name. The team must hold Eichmann in a safe house, win his signature, and secretly fly him to Israel for trial. The movie mixes spy tension with painful memories, dark humor, and long talks about guilt, evil, justice, and revenge.
The film gives its strongest attention to Jewish suffering, Nazi hatred, and the duty to remember the Holocaust. Peter tries to use kindness and careful talk instead of violence to make Eichmann accept the trip. A female doctor and a young woman who helps confirm Eichmann’s identity have important jobs in the mission. The main ideas are revenge, moral choice, and the danger of ordinary people accepting hateful beliefs.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Operation Finale.
Woke representation / casting
Oscar Isaac plays the real Israeli agent Peter Malkin even though he is a Guatemalan and Cuban American actor. Ben Kingsley plays German Nazi Adolf Eichmann even though he is a British actor of Indian heritage. The film turns the real male doctor Yonah Elian into Hanna Elian, a woman and Peter’s former partner. These choices create visible identity mismatches in major roles, but the film does not frame them as a diversity or empowerment campaign.
28%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue deals with Nazi beliefs, the Holocaust, justice, revenge, and the danger of hate in a historical setting. It does not use recurring modern political slogans or debates about present-day policy.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The film centers Jewish suffering, Nazi antisemitism, and survivor trauma as parts of its historical story. It does not turn those events into a modern race, gender, sexuality, or DEI campaign.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film condemns Nazi rule, racist murder, and the protection given to Nazi fugitives in Argentina. Those events belong to the historical conflict and do not become a modern attack on Western family life, Christianity, capitalism, or other institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film changes some real details, including the male doctor becoming Hanna Elian and the invented romance with Peter. Those changes build a personal story and more suspense, and the film gives no clear identity or DEI message for making them.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
One Reddit commenter objected to the real male doctor becoming Hanna Elian and treated the change as a sign of bad modern filmmaking. Other viewers defended the change or focused on the film’s history and pacing. The reaction was isolated and did not become a major anti-woke campaign.
8%
Creator track record context
Chris Weitz has a moderate cached score because of immigration work and criticism of conservative politics. Oscar Isaac has spoken in favor of more non-white actors and against anti-LGBT laws. Avy Kaufman and Claudia Morgado Escanilla have links to queer and identity-focused work. Matthew Orton and most producers have low or mild cached scores, so the overall crew context is mixed.
