Edgar Easton is a recently divorced comic book artist who moves back in with his parents after his life falls apart. He finds a Blade puppet in his dead brother’s room and takes it to a Texas hotel convention built around the old Toulon murders. Edgar, his girlfriend Ashley, and his rude boss Markowitz soon face dozens of living puppets that begin a bloody attack. The film uses crude jokes, Nazi imagery, practical gore, and a fast horror-comedy tone.
Several victims are chosen because they are Jewish, lesbian, Black, or Romani, and the characters call these killings hate crimes. A Jewish guest explains that collecting Nazi objects can turn symbols of murder into signs of survival, while another survivor invokes his family’s Holocaust history before fighting back. The story also shows a male Nazi predator attacking a lesbian couple who want to have a baby, and it includes a line that treats men as dangerous. These identity and gender points are clear and repeated, but the film mainly uses them to give its Nazi puppets targets for shocking jokes and murders rather than to build a modern political message.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich.
Woke representation / casting
The cast includes a lesbian couple, Jewish guests, a black pregnant woman, a black bartender, and a Romani guest in visible supporting roles. The story uses these identities to mark victims for the Nazi puppets, so the choices are more identity-focused than a normal background mix. The main hero group is not built as a diversity showcase, and no public statement presents the cast as a representation goal. The roles are mostly brief and often powerless, which keeps this factor low.
12%
Woke political dialogue
Edgar calls the murders hate crimes against a Jewish couple, a lesbian, and a Romani man. Markowitz links his wish to help a Jewish survivor to the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust. Edgar also asks why the police have all the guns, while a woman says that no man is harmless. These lines appear in several scenes, but the movie has no long speech about modern politics or DEI.
30%
Identity-driven story themes
The puppets repeatedly hunt Jews, lesbians, black people, and Romani people because of their identities. The film makes those attacks part of the central mystery and labels them hate crimes. The Jewish survivors connect the violence to Holocaust memory and survival, while the lesbian couple is shown planning a family before being killed. The movie treats these points as Nazi history and shock comedy, not as a detailed modern activist program.
38%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The opening presents male sexual entitlement as a threat when Toulon attacks a bartender who rejects him. The bartender says that no man is harmless, and Markowitz is often shown as a crude man who treats women as objects. The movie also jokes that police officers have the guns because other guests show poor judgment. The police are not shown as a racist system, and the story does not attack Christianity, capitalism, or family life.
15%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The reboot changes André Toulon from a Nazi victim in earlier films into a Nazi villain. That is a broad story and political rewrite, but it does not change a character’s race, gender, sexuality, or hero role to make an identity point.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
The supplied X pass found one tiny account that called the movie SJW and one small French post that listed it among woke films that flopped. The posts had almost no engagement and did not lead to a boycott or review-bombing campaign. Wider reviews argued about gore, bad taste, racial stereotypes, and the rebooted canon rather than calling the movie too woke. The available backlash is real but fringe and weak.
