Reign of the Supermen is a 2019 animated superhero movie set in Metropolis after Superman dies fighting Doomsday. Superman remains the central hero, but Lois Lane carries much of the investigation. Four new heroes claim the Superman name while the Justice League faces a threat from space. The movie mixes grief, mystery, jokes, and fast superhero fights.
Lois has a larger role than a usual love interest, and she leads the search for the missing Superman. Wonder Woman, Cat Grant, and a female president also hold important jobs, while the male heroes handle most of the fighting. Steel is a black hero, but the film presents him as an established DC character rather than as a race or identity statement. The main message is that courage, loyalty, teamwork, and personal choices matter more than wearing the Superman symbol.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Reign of the Supermen.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The movie uses established DC characters in a present-day fictional city. The cast is not presented as a diversity statement, and no race, gender, or identity choice becomes a story point.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue covers heroism, law, crime, grief, and alien danger. It has no repeated lines about modern identity politics, gender roles, DEI, or activist causes.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Lois Lane leads the investigation into the four new Supermen and often moves the story forward. Wonder Woman, Cat Grant, and a female president also hold active jobs while the male heroes handle most of the fighting. The movie gives women a clear place in the action and emotional story. It does not turn those roles into a direct argument about gender, race, or sexuality.
26%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows villains, alien attacks, and a city under threat. It does not blame Western institutions, family life, men, Christianity, or capitalism through a modern activist message.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie changes parts of the comic plot and its shared-universe setup, but no established character receives a race, gender, sexuality, or identity-based change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A small X account asked whether Black Steel and the group of replacement Supermen counted as wokeism. A fringe Reddit discussion used “woke pandering” and “race washing” language while discussing Steel and the story. The reaction is small and mixed, and no large news report shows a sustained anti-woke campaign against the movie. The complaint is about representation and casting, not activist speech in the film.
17%
Creator track record context
The cached creator records are mostly in the single digits or teens and describe normal superhero work. Sam Liu and Jake Castorena have no known activist record in the stored context. James Tucker has spoken positively about diverse characters, while Marston and Pérez have older feminist or left-leaning context. The stored record does not show a strong modern identity-politics pattern tied to the film.
