Superman protects Metropolis while he serves as a member of the Justice League. He hides his true identity from Lois Lane, his girlfriend, and his secrecy puts their relationship under strain. A brutal alien monster called Doomsday reaches Earth and defeats the League one hero at a time. The film has a serious, violent, and emotional tone as Superman faces a fight that may kill him.
The film gives Lois and Clark’s relationship a large share of the early story, and Lois learns that Clark is Superman before the final battle. Wonder Woman, Batman, Cyborg, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter fight beside Superman, but the group cannot stop Doomsday. The story treats Superman’s choice to protect strangers, his family, and the city as its main measure of heroism. Cat Grant appears as a black version of a long-running Superman character, while the story stays centered on duty, love, sacrifice, and the cost of hiding the truth.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Death of Superman.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The film uses established heroes such as Cyborg, Wonder Woman, and Superman in a modern superhero city. Their race and gender are not used as a message or major story point.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue deals with secret identities, work, love, family, and the attack by Doomsday. It has no recurring lines about DEI, modern identity politics, or activist causes.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story centers on Superman’s duty, his relationship with Lois, and his final sacrifice. It does not make race, gender, sexuality, or group identity a main theme.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. Lex Luthor, Cadmus, and government agencies create ordinary superhero conflicts. The film does not turn them into a modern attack on capitalism, patriarchy, Christianity, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
The film changes Cat Grant from her usual white and blonde comic version into a black character. Cat appears as Lois’s co-worker and gives advice about Clark, so the change is visible but small. Other changes mainly add relationship material or rearrange the comic’s hero lineup.
14%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Available reviews and audience discussion focus on the comic adaptation, action, pacing, and Lois and Clark’s relationship. One review disliked the extra Lois focus, but it did not call the film woke, political, or activist, and the supplied X check found no anti-woke complaints.
