Sick follows Parker Mason, a college student who leaves campus with her best friend Miri Woodlow when schools close in April 2020. The pair hide at Parker’s family lake house, but a masked attacker breaks in and turns their quiet quarantine into a fight for survival. Parker cares more about parties and dating, while Miri takes the new safety rules seriously. The film uses fast chases, bloody attacks, and a late family-revenge twist to create a tense and sometimes darkly funny slasher.
Sick makes pandemic rules part of the main danger. Miri treats masks and testing as duties to other people, while Parker’s careless party life helps connect her to the killers’ revenge. The killers turn grief over a COVID death into a violent demand for blame. Parker and Miri survive by trusting each other, so the movie ends with a simple message about shared danger and mutual help.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Sick.
Woke representation / casting
Miri is a black college student who plans to study medicine and is one of the two main survivors. The movie makes her careful, quick, and useful during the attack. That gives visible minority representation in a top role, but the modern California setting and small cast do not show a broad diversity-first pattern. No interview or marketing framing presents her casting as an identity statement.
18%
Woke political dialogue
Miri repeatedly argues for masks, testing, and avoiding contact with other people. The film contrasts her caution with Parker’s party life and careless choices. The killers turn COVID behavior into a moral question about who endangered whom. The film also supports the idea that people should protect one another during a shared crisis.
24%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story centers on quarantine, murder, family revenge, and friendship. Race, sex, sexuality, and identity politics do not drive the main conflict.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The movie shows selfish and careful responses to COVID as plot traits, but it does not attack Western institutions, religion, family life, or traditional gender roles.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Sick is an original horror story with no established characters, older canon, or real historical figures to change.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No clear anti-woke complaint appeared in the reviewed news or audience posts. One user called the political agenda apparent, but did not name woke, DEI, identity, or left-wing ideas.

Creator track record context
Kevin Williamson has the strongest relevant history, with a cached score of 41/100 tied to queer themes in some past work and support for authentic queer inclusion. Katelyn Crabb and John Hyams have cached scores of 15/100 and 16/100, with no documented activist pattern. Interviews about Sick focus on COVID anxiety, friendship, and community rather than identity politics.
