Kyle Moore leaves sunny California for Connecticut after his parents separate. He feels lost at a new school, where hockey players bully him and he struggles to make friends. A magic phone app makes every status update come true, so Kyle uses it to gain popularity, win at hockey, join the choir, and attract Dani and Charlotte. His wishes hurt his friends and family, and he must face life without the app. The film has a bright teen-comedy tone, with songs and fantasy mixed into school bullying and family stress.
The film has a few audience-visible identity elements, but they stay on the edge of the story. Brian Massey is a gay choir student, and the film says that being gay is okay while also using his style and sexuality for jokes. Several non-white students and an Asian principal appear, but they are side figures rather than the center of the story. The main lesson tells Kyle to stop hiding behind social media and accept his real self, not to follow a political or activist cause.

0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters discuss school status, family trouble, and social media rather than politics or activist ideas.

Identity-driven story themes
Brian Massey is called gay, and the film says that being gay is okay. The movie uses his style and sexuality for jokes and a few lines. Kyle’s main lesson is to be honest instead of using a magic app, which is a general life lesson. No queer relationship or identity struggle drives the plot.
12%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The school bullying and family conflict are treated as ordinary teen problems. The movie does not attack Western institutions, family life, religion, or traditional social roles with activist messaging.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original teen fantasy about Kyle and a magic app. It does not change a known character, source story, or historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public discussion centers on the movie’s weak reviews, social media idea, stereotypes, and teen tone. No clear anti-woke or anti-left campaign against the movie appears in the researched coverage.

Creator track record context
Scott Speer has no high-confidence public record of political or activist work. Jason Filardi has a mild context from writing and executive producing Drum, a drama about apartheid-era racial injustice. Adam Shankman has publicly discussed his gay identity and opposed anti-LGBT bigotry, while his work includes inclusive musicals. The other listed producers and casting directors have little or no documented political context, so the crew signal is modest.
