Max acts as Father Max on a live online show that claims to free people from demons. He and his best friend Drew secretly hire actors and use tricks to fake each exorcism, while Max enjoys the fame and money. Their plan fails when Drew’s fiancée, Lane, takes the place of a missing actor and becomes truly possessed. The story stays mostly inside a television studio and mixes bloody scares, crude jokes, and fast-moving danger.
The demon traps the crew and forces Max and Drew to confess the lies and secrets that built their show. Max must face his false priest image, his hunger for attention, and the guilt that followed him from Catholic school into priest school. The film shows online viewers treating pain as entertainment and joining cruel chat comments while they watch. A drag queen named Dante is booked for the show, and one woman says girls must take charge because men are too timid, but these points remain brief beside the horror, church distrust, greed, friendship, and danger of chasing views.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Cleansing Hour.
Woke representation / casting
The film places Latino actor Ryan Guzman in the lead and uses a visibly mixed supporting cast. The modern Los Angeles setting makes a mixed cast believable, so the choices do not feel strongly out of place. A director interview also presents the diverse cast and Latino lead as important choices. The film does not make diversity the main subject, so the signal is mild.
32%
Woke political dialogue
One scene has a woman say that girls must take charge because men are too timid to approach them. The line treats a modern gender-role complaint as a joke. The film has no repeated political speeches or identity debates, so this remains a brief element.
23%
Identity-driven story themes
The story includes Dante, a drag queen booked to play the possessed victim. One woman also jokes about women taking charge and men being too timid. These identity points are brief and do not shape Max’s main conflict or the ending.
14%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Max says he was raised Catholic, became a priest, and left after seeing hypocrisy and corruption in the Church. The story repeatedly shows a fake priest using church symbols and fake holy goods to make money. The film treats religious authority as a source of fraud and shame. The criticism matters to Max’s past, but it does not become a wider attack on Western society.
38%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film expands its own 2016 short and does not recast or rewrite a known character or real person.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Search results and audience posts show horror discussion and recommendations, not claims that the film pushes woke or DEI ideas.
0%
Creator track record context
Not present. The cached context describes LeVeck and Horwitz as genre filmmakers without a documented pattern of political, DEI, or identity-focused work. Their title interviews focus on horror, social media, guilt, and character flaws.
