The Hollow Point is a dark crime western set in Los Reyes County, Arizona, near the Mexican border. Wallace returns home to become sheriff after retired lawman Leland is forced out following a deadly clash with a gun smuggler. The two men investigate a failed cartel deal while a brutal hit man hunts everyone tied to the missing money and ammunition. The movie uses dry desert views, hard men, grim jokes, and sudden bloody violence to create a bleak and rough tone.
The central conflict grows from cartel violence, bullet smuggling, local corruption, and the way money turns ordinary men into killers. Wallace and Leland must work outside normal law rules because the cartel reaches into the town and the police cannot protect everyone. Marla, Wallace's old girlfriend, becomes part of the danger when the hit man puts her on his list. The story keeps its attention on damaged lawmen, revenge, guilt, greed, and personal violence.
