Pete Koslow is a former special forces soldier and convicted felon who wants a quiet life with his wife and young daughter. He works as an FBI informant inside a Polish crime group in New York so the FBI can bring down its leader. A drug deal goes wrong after an undercover police officer is killed, and the mob and the FBI both force Pete back into prison. Pete must run the gang's drug trade, survive prison violence, and keep his family alive. The story has a grim, tense, and violent crime-thriller tone.
The movie follows Pete as he moves between the mob, the FBI, the prison gang, and an NYPD detective who wants justice for his dead partner. The main themes are family loyalty, guilt, betrayal, survival, and the danger of trusting powerful institutions. The film shows a female FBI agent in a major role and a Black NYPD detective in another important role. Those choices are visible, but the story does not make race, sex, or identity into its main subject. The movie stays focused on crime, prison danger, and a man's fight to get back to his family.
