Kate and Meg are single best friends who share a home in Seattle. Kate teaches at a high school, while Meg tries to sell beauty products. A hurricane warning forces their holiday flight to land in St. Louis. Both women fall for Ryan, a handsome firefighter, and they turn their friendship into a rude and reckless contest. Raunchy jokes, slapstick, jealousy, and bad choices drive the comedy until the ending teaches them to value their friendship.
The film lets its two female leads control the romance because Kate and Meg openly chase Ryan. Their friendship matters more than their rivalry over a man by the end. The story does not focus on race, sexuality, activism, or modern social causes. The film also avoids clear political messages and identity themes. Its real subjects are friendship, desire, poor choices, and personal growth.
