Kathy is a young mother with a serious drinking problem. She drives her daughter Lizzy down dark country roads so Lizzy can stay with her father for a while. Their car crashes on a lonely stretch of road, help is slow to come, and a deadly creature from the woods begins to hunt them. The night turns into a fight for survival in the rain and dark trees. The tone is tense, bleak, and full of fear, with a strong focus on the broken bond between mother and child.
The real story sits with Kathy's addiction and the hurt she has caused Lizzy over many years. Flashbacks show neglect, loud fights, and a home where Lizzy has often had to act like the adult. As the creature closes in, Kathy tries to protect her daughter and prove that she does love her. Lizzy must face both the monster outside and her deep anger toward her mom. The film stays fixed on family damage, fear in the woods, and a hard path toward care and sacrifice before morning comes.

Creator track record context
Bryan Bertino is the main creative force and has a very low stored score tied to horror about fear and trauma. Producer and editor profiles on file are also low and show little or no activist pattern. Nothing about this crew points to identity-first or social-justice work driving the movie.
