Matt is a retired government assassin who hides as a drunken beach bum in the Cayman Islands. His estranged daughter Ashley sends her young daughter Sarah to him after a criminal deal puts the family in danger. Crime boss Donnie and his men chase them over a hard drive that may expose corrupt officials. The movie uses bloody fights, guns, dark jokes, and a fast crime plot with a family story underneath.
Matt's family failure gives the action a simple emotional goal. Ashley and Sarah survive through courage, quick choices, and help from allies. Bobo's time with Sarah changes his choices, while Matt accepts that his violent past cannot stay hidden. The story treats crime, betrayal, and family loyalty as entertainment.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Retirement Plan.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The movie has a mixed cast, including black characters in crime, government, and family roles. The modern Cayman Islands and Miami setting makes that mix believable, and no identity-first casting message appears.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Characters mention a hard drive that could damage politicians and expose corruption. The movie uses that information to move the crime plot, not to argue for a modern political cause.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story centers on an estranged family, criminal violence, and hidden pasts. It does not make race, gender, sexuality, or social justice the main subject.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The movie shows a crime network reaching into government and politicians who may be exposed. That is a usual thriller plot and does not attack Western culture, family life, religion, or traditional social rules.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The movie is an original crime story with no known legacy characters or real historical figures. Its changes are plot twists, not identity-driven changes.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Audience posts and reviews focus on Nicolas Cage, the action, the low-budget look, language, and weak writing. No broad anti-woke, DEI, identity-politics, or left-wing complaint was found. One isolated audience review says there is no wokism, but it does not show a real controversy.
0%
Creator track record context
Not present. The cached notes give Tim Brown a 0 score and the listed crew scores from 0 to 6. They report no high-confidence activist, DEI-focused, or identity-driven political record. Brown's interviews about this title discuss action comedy and the family plot.
