Old Guy follows Danny Dolinski, a longtime contract killer whose painful hand problem and age threaten his career. The Company sends him to train Wihlborg, a gifted Gen Z killer who may be part of a plan to remove the older workers. Danny and Wihlborg travel from London to Belfast for a series of jobs and discover that their bosses want them gone. Danny also hopes to win Anata, his old friend and a club manager, while the film mixes bloody action with dry jokes and a rough buddy comedy mood.
The film makes the age divide its clearest social idea. The Company wants younger workers, while Danny argues that experience still matters, and Wihlborg brings a cleaner, more careful style to the job. The story contrasts Danny’s drinking, pills, smoking, and casual sex with Wihlborg’s refusal to use them. It ends by valuing teamwork between generations instead of declaring that youth or age should rule alone. Anata is a capable Asian woman in the main group, but the story uses her mostly as Danny’s friend and love interest.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Old Guy.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main roles include white, Black, and Asian performers in a modern London and Belfast crime story. The film does not frame those choices as a diversity goal.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters talk about age, work habits, and killing rules. They do not use current identity politics or activist political speeches.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
The movie makes workplace ageism a main problem. The Company pushes Danny out because it wants younger killers, even though he still has experience. Danny and Wihlborg then show that older skill and younger energy can work together. The film treats this as a generational crime comedy, not as a wider race, gender, or queer campaign.
22%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The Company is a criminal group that wants younger workers. The film does not use this plot to attack Western institutions, family life, religion, or traditional gender roles.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Old Guy is an original crime story, not an adaptation of an established character or real event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Public complaints focus on weak writing, dull action, and wasted actors. No meaningful anti-woke or anti-DEI backlash was found.
0%
Creator track record context
The director's public work is mainly mainstream action and comedy. The writer has no high-confidence record of activist, DEI, or identity-driven political work. The casting directors and producers have mostly low public-context scores, with only routine interest in varied casting from Dan Hubbard. Interview coverage presents the film as dark action comedy about age and teamwork, not as an activist project.
