Those Who Wish Me Dead

Hannah Faber is a smokejumper, a firefighter who parachutes into wildfires, but she has lost her nerve after one fire kills three children and a fellow firefighter. She lives alone in a watchtower in the Montana wilderness. A boy named Connor reaches her after two men kill his father and chase him for secret evidence. Hannah must guide Connor through another wildfire while the killers close in. The film has a dark, rough, and fast thriller tone.

The film puts Hannah in the main rescue role and gives Allison, a pregnant black survivalist, a strong fight scene against one of the killers. Tyler Perry also plays a brief crime boss, and a black firefighter appears among Hannah's co-workers. These choices add visible gender and racial variety, but the story does not make identity, race, or politics the reason for the conflict. The story centers on guilt, courage, trust, family duty, and earning a second chance.
