Time Cut follows Lucy Field, a science-loving teenager living in 2024 with the memory of a sister who was murdered before Lucy was born. A hidden time machine sends Lucy to 2003, where she meets Summer and the friends who are about to be killed by a masked murderer. Lucy must uncover the killer and decide whether saving Summer will erase her own life. The story uses slasher danger and time travel puzzles. Family grief and teen romance give the horror a softer side.
The clearest woke element is the casting of two black girls as the central sisters, with Lucy written as a gifted science student who drives the rescue. The film also reveals that Summer and Emmy are secretly in love, and the changed ending lets them stay together. That queer storyline matters to the final emotional payoff, but it stays below the main mystery about the killings and the sisters. The movie has no clear political speeches or modern activist attack on Western institutions.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Time Cut.
Woke representation / casting
The movie puts two Black teenage girls at the center of the story as sisters. Lucy is a gifted science student and amateur inventor who leads the time-travel rescue. Their family link gives a direct story reason for them to share the same background. No interview or marketing statement found framed the casting as a diversity-first event. The casting still carries a modest representation signal because both main heroes are black girls.
26%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The characters do not give political or activist speeches. The dialogue stays on family grief, time travel, bullying, romance, and the murders.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Summer and Emmy are revealed to be in love. The relationship is a clear same-sex romance and becomes part of the film's final emotional payoff. The ending lets the couple stay together after Lucy changes the timeline. Lucy's main story is still saving her sister and stopping the killer, so the queer theme is important but secondary.
40%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows bullying, family pain, and a killer seeking revenge. It does not make a modern activist critique of men, gender roles, capitalism, religion, or Western institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original story. It does not change a known character, canon, or historical event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No clear anti-woke backlash was found. The supplied X pass found no complaints of woke, DEI, identity politics, boycotts, or review-bombing. Other public complaints focused on weak acting, plot holes, and similarities to Totally Killer.
