Sam Larson is a quiet accountant who writes spy books after work. When his online publisher labels his newest book as a true memoir, killers and rebels believe that Sam is the famous assassin in the story. They kidnap him and take him to Venezuela, where several groups order him to kill their rivals. The film uses chase scenes, gunfights, mistaken identity, and nervous jokes as Sam tries to stay alive.
The film adds a small political edge to the action. El Toro calls his rebel group pro-democracy, attacks an unelected president, and says the revolution will fight greed and corruption. Rosa says the CIA wants to keep the political status quo, and the ending shows CIA agents worried about controlling the new leader. These ideas give the movie a mild anti-American government message, but the main story stays focused on fear, survival, friendship, and the joke of a writer becoming his own hero.

Woke political dialogue
The rebel leader calls the president unelected and says the revolution will reject greed and corruption. Rosa says the CIA wants to maintain the political status quo while the U.S. government watches the crisis. The ending shows CIA agents worried about controlling the new leader. The movie presents these ideas through jokes and action, so the political message stays light.

Identity-driven story themes
Not present in this title.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film treats the CIA as a secret force that helps keep an unfair political system in place. Rosa says the agency cares about the status quo, and the CIA agents watch the crisis like a game. The story shows a president backed by the CIA and tied to a drug boss. This creates a mild attack on U.S. power overseas, but it does not focus on race, capitalism, patriarchy, or Western culture.
21%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Original story with no adaptations or historical reinterpretations.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No backlash, debates, news reports, or audience complaints about woke content, representation, or agenda found anywhere.

Creator track record context
Jeff Wadlow and Jeff Morris are mainly known for mainstream action, comedy, and horror work. Producer Sarah Perlman Bremner also worked at Netflix and Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY Filmworks on projects about racial justice and identity. That gives a mild creator track record signal, but the film was presented as an action comedy rather than an activist project.
