Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Venom: The Last Dance.
Woke representation / casting
The movie has a diverse group of actors. A woman named Juno Temple plays the leader of the secret research lab. Her helper is played by Clark Backo, who is a black actress. A black actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, plays the army general in charge of the base. These choices show the common trend of putting women and minority actors in powerful jobs. However, the diversity feels normal for a modern movie. It does not feel forced or like a political message.
38%
Woke political dialogue
The characters do not talk about modern politics. There are no speeches about social justice, privilege, or inequality. The dialogue is simple and stays focused on the sci-fi adventure.

Identity-driven story themes
There are no story themes about identity or social politics.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The movie does not criticize Western institutions, capitalism, or traditional families. The military and the secret lab act as enemies for part of the story, but this is a standard sci-fi trope. It is not used to attack real-world institutions.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
The film makes a few changes to comic book characters. Dr. Teddy Paine is a female version of a character who was male in the comics. General Rex Strickland is played by a black actor instead of a white one. Sadie Christmas is changed from a young girl to an adult scientist. These changes add diversity to the cast. However, they are not used to push any progressive ideas.
40%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
There were no major complaints from conservative viewers about the movie being woke. Reviewers on both sides agreed that the film is just a silly action movie. It does not try to lecture the audience.
0%
Creator track record context
The filmmakers have a very low score for political activism. Kelly Marcel (12) and Tom Hardy (9) avoid making political statements. The comic writers, David Michelinie (11) and Todd McFarlane (17), stick to standard superhero stories. The producers and casting directors have no history of pushing progressive social agendas in their films.
