Personal context

Summary

Karen Gillan is a Scottish actor, writer, and director known for Doctor Who, the Guardians of the Galaxy films, and Jumanji. Her work spans science fiction, action, and comedy; her feature debut, The Party’s Just Beginning, told a dark story from a female perspective. Gillan has said that seeing few women directors made directing seem less like a career option, and that she hopes to encourage younger women to pursue it. She has also publicly supported the Time’s Up movement and spoken about the need for more female filmmakers. No public statements on party politics, DEI programs, or other identity-based activism are on record.
