2019 · Based on 1 season, 10 episodes through December 5, 2019 ·
V Wars follows Dr. Luther Swann, a scientist who studies a deadly disease after it turns his best friend, Michael Fayne, into a violent vampire. The infection spreads from an Arctic event and breaks society into humans and Bloods. Luther tries to find a cure while Michael becomes the leader of the new vampire group. The season mixes horror, science fiction, family drama, and a growing war.
The story repeatedly treats the Bloods as a feared group that faces raids, internment camps, public fear, and calls for equal rights. Michael asks for safety and a place for Bloods, while Luther argues that infected people are still human. The show also blames melting ice and climate change for releasing the disease, and it presents government officials who use fear and secret violence to gain control. A lesbian vampire and her female detective love interest add clear LGBTQ representation, but the main story remains a vampire outbreak and a friendship breaking apart.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for V Wars.
Woke representation / casting
The show gives major roles to a black pilot who becomes the Blood leader, a black security official, an Asian journalist, and an Indigenous FBI agent. These characters are capable and important to the season. The modern North American setting makes the casting plausible, but the repeated mix of prominent minority roles creates a visible representation signal. Interviews also stress the value of many cultural viewpoints.
34%
Woke political dialogue
Luther warns publicly that melting ice can release deadly disease. Michael says Blood Nation has a right to survive and calls for safety and equality. Government officials call the Bloods terrorists, while hearings, internment camps, and a peace deal fill later episodes. These debates recur across the season and drive the conflict, although the show stays inside its vampire story instead of naming current political parties.
42%
Identity-driven story themes
The season centers on people who become Bloods and are treated as a separate group. Michael builds Blood Nation, while Luther argues that infected people remain human and deserve a cure. Mila rejects the Blood label and has a romance with a female detective, so belonging and sexuality also appear in a continuing subplot. The show favors equal treatment, but its message remains a science-fiction story about a new species rather than a direct lesson about real-world race or gender.
41%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The DNS arrests suspected Bloods, hides evidence, and runs internment camps. Officials use fear, the word terrorist, and secret violence to keep control. Luther, Kaylee, and a senator expose or resist those actions, and the season treats the camps as a serious abuse of power. The show criticizes government institutions, but it does not attack family life, Christianity, or ordinary Western customs.
35%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The show changes the source material for television, but no reported change to a character, canon rule, or real event is clearly tied to woke or identity-driven goals.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A Reddit discussion includes complaints that the opening climate-change talk and later political themes make the show feel like liberal or social-justice messaging. Another fringe reaction reads the Black vampire leader and white human lead as racial propaganda. The separate X pass found no anti-woke reaction. The complaints are isolated and mixed with many ordinary complaints about weak writing, pacing, and poor logic.

Creator track record context
William Laurin and Glenn Davis have cached scores of 0/100, with no high-confidence activist record. Ian Somerhalder has a low cached score because he supports LGBTQ youth and environmental and animal causes. The other cached directors have little or no activist pattern, and the higher scores for two producers come from credits tied to Wynonna Earp. The crew context is therefore mild, not a strong signal by itself.
