2022–2023 · Based on 2 seasons through October 19, 2023 ·
Wolf Like Me follows Gary, a widowed father in Adelaide who is trying to care for his daughter Emma after the death of his wife. Gary meets Mary after a car crash, and their fast-moving romance grows around the secret that she becomes a dangerous werewolf during the full moon. Gary and Emma must decide whether they can trust Mary after she kills men who attack them in the Australian outback. The show mixes sad family drama, awkward romance, dark jokes, and bloody monster scenes.
The show gives Mary the stronger and more protective role, while Gary is the anxious parent who must learn to speak openly about grief, fear, and love. Season 1 treats Mary's hidden wolf nature as a fear of rejection, and Season 2 uses her pregnancy and possible wolf baby to test the family's trust. The story briefly names a lesbian couple at a pregnancy class, but their relationship is not part of the main plot. The series supports accepting a troubled person and building a family around her secret, while keeping that message inside the romance and family story.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Wolf Like Me.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The main cast fits the show's modern Australian setting and does not show a diversity-first casting message. Mary's gender is part of the story's werewolf premise.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. Characters discuss grief, parenting, sex, money, and danger, but they do not make recurring speeches about current political issues.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Mary hides her werewolf identity because she fears that people will reject her. Gary and Emma learn to accept her and build a family around that secret. Season 2 briefly names a lesbian couple at a pregnancy class, but the couple has no story arc. The show keeps its message about acceptance inside a personal romance and family story.
12%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Mary is the strong protector in the relationship, while Gary is the anxious partner who must learn to open up. Josh Gad said the show deals with women's bodies, men's wish to control them, and moving past the man-saving-woman story. The pregnancy plot returns to Mary's body and Gary's fear across Season 2. The family still values love, fatherhood, and a stable home, so the gender critique stays inside the romance.
28%

0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Research found no meaningful anti-woke complaints about the show. Available audience talk mostly praised or criticized the romance, pacing, music, and werewolf effects.
0%
Creator track record context
Abe Forsythe has a cached woke score of 18, and Chris Peckover has 35. Cached producer scores range from 12 to 62, with Josh Gad highest because of his public LGBTQ support and racial-justice activism. Title interviews mainly discuss grief, unusual romance, music, pregnancy, and family, while Gad and Fisher also use diversity and gender-role language. This makes the creator context mixed and moderate rather than a clear campaign.
