Above Suspicion is a true-crime thriller about newly married FBI agent Mark Putnam in Appalachian Kentucky. He recruits poor, drug-addicted local Susan Smith as an informant. They start an affair, and he eventually kills her. The story follows the real case of the first FBI agent convicted of murder. The film focuses on crime, sex, drugs, abuse, and personal desperation rather than representation messaging.
Audience-visible woke content is minimal. The leads match the real 1980s white Appalachian principals, and the film is not sold as diversity casting. Dialogue stays with the crime story and does not push modern activist, DEI, race, gender-ideology, or identity-politics speech. Core themes are adultery, class gap, addiction, and a fatal power imbalance. Class disparity and male abuse of a poor female informant appear because they follow the historical crime, not a modern identity-politics agenda.
