Lucy is a 32-year-old receptionist at a health spa in Los Angeles. She has spent years dating men without feeling much connection, while her best friend Jane seems more confident and in control. When Jane plans to move to London with her boyfriend, Lucy admits that she may be a lesbian and starts to face feelings she has kept hidden. The film follows the friends through awkward dates, arguments, and a painful change in their daily lives, using a gentle and sometimes sad comedy tone.
Lucy’s late-in-life coming out is the movie’s main identity-driven story theme. She searches online for answers, tells Jane that she likes women, visits a gay bar, and begins a relationship with Brittany, a woman who works at the spa. The story presents queer self-discovery as a normal and hopeful part of adult life, without turning the plot into a debate about laws, parties, or social systems. Jane’s friendship with Lucy remains the other main subject, so the movie gives nearly equal weight to personal identity and the fear that close friends may grow apart.
