Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Death of a Unicorn.
Woke representation / casting
The movie has a normal, diverse cast for a modern story. Jenna Ortega plays the daughter. Sunita Mani plays a scientist. These choices fit the movie well. There is no forced representation or identity signaling in the casting.
20%
Woke political dialogue
The characters have some basic political talk. Ridley complains about corporate greed and rich people. She does not like that her dad works for a wealthy boss. There are also a few direct messages about animal rights and protecting nature from humans.

Identity-driven story themes
The story focuses on a father and daughter who are grieving. It also focuses on greed and family. It does not focus on modern identity politics, gender, or race.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The movie makes fun of rich corporate families and the drug industry. It shows them as greedy and bad. But this is standard anti-rich satire. It is not an activist attack on traditional families, Western culture, or social norms.
