Grimsby

The main story is brotherhood and chaos, but the moral spine is progressive class identity. The film humanizes the dole-dependent hooligan family and villainizes elite philanthropy that wants to cull the poor. Baron Cohen framed Nobby as the undeserving poor and linked welfare attacks to cutting the welfare state. DEI-style identity politics is light, while class politics is intentional and easy to see.

The film targets elite celebrity charity, class snobbery, and a leading conservative figure through the Trump gag. It also lightly mocks large Catholic-coded poor families and includes a crude Jesus and Scripture joke. It does not treat traditional masculinity, fatherhood, or football culture as toxic. The critique is anti-elite and anti-right more than anti-Christian or anti-family.

Some right-leaning viewers disliked the Trump AIDS joke and Cohen’s progressive image. A few later comments treat the film as Hollywood punching the white working class. There was no big organized campaign calling it DEI or queer propaganda. Most anger was about bad taste, town stereotypes, the flop, and later workplace claims.

Sacha Baron Cohen is the main creative force and is known as a progressive activist satirist. Co-writer Phil Johnston brings social satire from family films like Zootopia. Director Louis Leterrier is more of a commercial action filmmaker. Some casting and producing names have diversity or underrepresented-talent work, so the progressive weight sits mainly with Cohen.
