Molly is a troubled Las Vegas stripper who flees a zombie outbreak with her boyfriend. After their car gets stuck in the Nevada desert, a slow zombie kills him and follows Molly on foot. Molly has little water and few supplies, but she keeps moving toward an airfield. The grim chase mixes dark jokes, bloody horror, and a later story about guilt, motherhood, and trying to save her young son.
The film gives its clearest social message through Molly's fear of men. Molly calls the zombie Smalls because she sees him as another unwanted man who will not stop following her. Two living men then attack her, while the zombie saves her, which makes the gender message hard to miss. The story later shifts toward Molly's regret and her choice to return for her son, so the identity theme matters but does not control every scene.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for It Stains the Sands Red.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. Molly is the clear lead in a modern Las Vegas story, and the film does not make her casting or the wider cast a diversity message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Molly says that Smalls is like every guy she has met at a bar. She says that men who hear no are gross and names the zombie after a small penis. The film repeats jokes about male chasing and unwanted attention, but it has no long speech about a political group or movement.
32%
Identity-driven story themes
Molly's journey turns a zombie chase into a story about a woman dealing with unwanted male attention. The film makes the living men who attack her more dangerous than the slow zombie, and the zombie later saves her. Molly also faces guilt about leaving her son and chooses to return for him. The gender message is central in the first half, but the later story gives more space to motherhood, regret, and survival.
54%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film presents several men as threats to Molly. Molly compares Smalls with men who ignore a woman's no, and Ted says the changed world lets him take what he wants. A rape attempt and repeated male insults support a critique of male entitlement. The film does not attack churches, capitalism, or Western institutions, so this factor stays limited.
32%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film is an original zombie story, so it does not change an established character, source story, or real event.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. X research found no anti-woke complaints, boycotts, or review-bombing. Other posts and reviews discuss the feminist or female-centered reading, but they do not frame the film as DEI propaganda or activist messaging.
0%
Creator track record context
Colin Minihan often puts women at the center of his horror stories, and this film follows that pattern. Brittany Allen has supported female-led genre projects and has spoken about strong women roles and diversity in hiring. Stuart Ortiz and the other listed producers have little public record of activist or DEI work. The group gives the film a mild creator track record context, but there is no clear political campaign around this title.
