Ladies First

The entire plot exists to flip gender power so a sexist man feels discrimination and reforms. Workplace fairness for women, objectification, and who gets to lead drive every major beat. The nonbinary child is a real but smaller identity detail beside the main man-vs-woman power lesson, which never leaves the center of the film.

The film attacks male boardroom culture, casual harassment, and the idea that men can rise while treating women as props. Traditional male power at home and work is shown as wrong, and the “good” ending is Damien fixing the company for women. It is not a broad attack on churches or capitalism, but it strongly knocks male entitlement and old gender rules.

Conservative and men’s-rights style posts and a Washington Examiner review call it man-hating feminist propaganda and a revenge fantasy. Some viewers also attacked the nonbinary child as forced woke casting. The pushback is clear and repeated, but critics mostly panned craft and jokes more than launching a huge national boycott story.

Pourriat’s source work is open feminist role-reversal, and several writers and a producer have soft-to-moderate records of female-led stories, diversity framing, or light feminist comedy. Sharrock and other producers are more mainstream or low-profile. The team fits a gender-satire remake without every name being a hard activist.
