Gary Bloom marries Samantha and moves into her suburban home with her quiet six-year-old son, Lucas. Gary wants to become a good stepfather, but strange deaths, frightening videos, and Lucas’s violent behavior make him think the boy may be the Antichrist. A doomsday preacher and a group of other stepfathers pull Gary into a fight over Lucas’s fate. The movie uses dark jokes, rough scares, and warm family moments to turn old demon-child horror into a story about love and parenthood.
The clearest woke element is Al, Gary’s friend and fellow stepfather. Al is a trans man with a wife, and the film treats him as an ordinary member of the group without making his gender a joke. That gives the movie a small but clear message of casual trans acceptance. The message stays in a supporting story, while the main plot remains about a new father trying to protect and accept his stepson.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Little Evil.
Woke representation / casting
Al is a trans man in a recurring supporting role. The film presents Al as a male stepdad with a wife. The story also uses a mixed supporting cast, but the lead couple and child are not built around identity themes. The role gives the film a clear representation signal, but the pattern is limited to one supporting character.
30%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The film has no speeches or repeated lines about race, gender politics, DEI, or activism. Al’s male identity appears through ordinary family dialogue, not a political message.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Al is a trans man who joins the stepfather group and later introduces his wife. The other stepdads accept Al without arguing about his gender or using it as a joke. This creates a small, positive trans-acceptance thread in the story. Gary’s main problem is still bonding with Lucas, so the identity theme stays secondary.
30%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The movie mocks a doomsday cult and a preacher as part of its supernatural comedy. It does not attack modern Western institutions, traditional family life, Christianity, or men as a political group.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. Little Evil is an original story. It borrows ideas from The Omen and other evil-child movies, but it does not change a known character or historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. The separate X pass found no anti-woke complaints, and web searches found no clear right-leaning backlash that called the film woke or political. Public discussion mainly covered the horror comedy, the stepfather story, and Al’s trans character.
0%
Creator track record context
Scott Stuber has a public record of supporting inclusion metrics and more roles for people of color and women. Mary Vernieu has discussed representation and diverse role models. Eli Craig and most other listed creators have low scores and no strong activist record, so this is a mild context signal.
