Mortal Engines

In a far future world after a great catastrophe, giant cities roll on wheels and hunt smaller towns for fuel and scrap. Apprentice historian Tom Natsworthy is thrown off London after he meets scarred fugitive Hester Shaw, who seeks revenge on Thaddeus Valentine. They team up with Anti-Traction pilot Anna Fang, uncover Valentine's rebuild of the superweapon MEDUSA, and fight to stop London's assault on the Asian static civilization behind the Shield Wall. Romance and spectacle drive the plot more than ideology.

Audience-visible elements include a female action lead sold as the woman who can stop London, Anna Fang as a skilled Asian warrior mentor, and a multiethnic Anti-Traction League facing a largely white London elite. Dialogue stays on revenge, world rules, romance, and action rather than modern identity activism. Core themes are revenge, partnership, and stopping an imperial superweapon, with light female empowerment and a clear picture of predatory London devouring weaker places. There is no LGBTQ storyline, no faith critique, and no DEI-driven character rewrite of the books. Occasional social posts called the film a woke mess, but the big public story was that it flopped as a movie, not that it became a major culture war fight.
