Paddleton follows Michael, a quiet copy shop worker, and Andy, his awkward upstairs neighbor and only close friend. The two men spend their days making pizza, watching the same kung fu movie, solving puzzles, and playing a game they invented at an old drive-in. Michael then learns that he has terminal stomach cancer and decides to take medicine that will end his life before the illness becomes worse. Andy agrees to help, but the trip and the final days force both men to face fear, grief, and life without the other. The tone stays dry and funny while the story becomes deeply sad.
The film centers on loyalty, personal choice, and the deep love that can exist between close male friends. Michael wants control over his death, while Andy learns that helping a friend can also mean accepting a choice he hates. A motel scene briefly mistakes them for a gay couple, which shows how unusual their close friendship looks to strangers. The two men slowly learn to speak honestly about fear, love, and loss. The story treats assisted dying as a personal and painful choice, while its dry jokes keep the film from becoming only sad.

0%
Creator track record context
The main team has a low to modest record for woke or activist work. Some producers have worked on projects about autism, student debates, gender identity, and other social topics. That background is only a mild signal here because the title-related interviews focus on grief, friendship, and ordinary people.
